These teas come from our northern neighbor – Canada. Based in Montreal, DAVIDsTEA (Les Thes Davids Tea in French) can be compared to Teavana, who is their competition for tea dominance. They have many stores throughout Canada, and just went public. Very good web presence and a nice website. There is a nifty menu, shown below. As for the teas that I got – well, I’ll have to try again.
The genmaicha has Japanese green tea, popcorn, and roasted (or toasted) rice. The only thing that comes through after brewing is the nuttiness of the rice. I’ve taken to using a small amount mixed with gunpowder to get a hint of nuttiness.
The mint matcha is extremely minty, says Kelley. That can either be a good or bad thing, based on personal preference. But the matcha part is teeny tiny compared to the mint.
So, two strikes…but, I’m sure they have something we’ll like as their menu is extensive. I will definitely order something else from them soonly. And I can’t wait to visit a tea room or store when we make it up that way!
